Logan Webb's Eventful All-Star Break: From Home Run Derby to Hungover Heroics
San Francisco Giants pitcher Logan Webb made the most of his 2024 All-Star break, participating in a whirlwind of events that took him from the Home Run Derby festivities to the All-Star Game itself, all in Arlington, Texas. Webb’s journey was anything but typical, marked by memorable moments and a few hangovers.
Webb kicked off the break with a bang at the Home Run Derby. As one of the spectators soaking in the electrifying atmosphere, Webb was clearly enjoying himself. “The best part was the night before the All-Star Game. I got to watch the Home Run Derby and hang out with these guys. It was probably one of the more hungover days I've been. The day of the All-Star Game. I take responsibility for that. I was having a blast. It was a cool experience,” Webb reminisced.
The excitement didn't end with the Derby. Following the event, Webb attended the postgame players' celebration, a party held in the middle of the Cowboys stadium. The atmosphere was amplified by none other than Lil Jon, who was DJing at the celebration. Webb shared his experience, stating, “I was watching the Derby; they had a postgame players' celebration, a party for the players and their families. It was in the middle of the Cowboys stadium. Lil Jon is DJing.”
The next day, however, was a different story. With the All-Star Game scheduled, Webb had to shake off the after-effects of the previous night. “I was like, 'Oh no, this is going to be a long day.' And it was a long day,” he admitted. Despite feeling under the weather, Webb took to the mound, determined to represent his team.
During the All-Star Game, Webb was called out of the bullpen for the bottom of the third inning. The pitcher jogged out to the mound, battling not only the opposition but also his own physical state. “I go from the bullpen, and I jog out to the mound. The only thing I'm thinking is, 'Don't throw up, don't throw up, don't throw up, don't throw up.' And it's a long jog,” Webb humorously recounted.
Once on the mound, Webb faced a tough challenge. He surrendered three runs on three hits during his appearance, a performance that reflected the difficulties of the day. However, his participation in the All-Star Game was a testament to his commitment and resilience, even under less-than-ideal conditions.
Webb’s performance in the All-Star Game may not have been his best, but his achievements during the 2024 regular season speak volumes about his skills and consistency. Webb has started 30 games for the San Francisco Giants, posting a commendable 3.46 ERA and striking out 157 batters. These numbers highlight his pivotal role within the Giants' pitching rotation.
