Kiyan Anthony: The Rising Star Carving His Own Path
In the annals of high school basketball, few names have garnered as much early attention as Kiyan Anthony. A rising star, Anthony's talent on the court has already earned him a four-star recruit status and the distinction of being the No. 36 prospect in the 2025 rankings. At just 6-foot-5, his towering presence on the court is hard to ignore, but it’s his versatility and determination that set him apart.
Currently attending Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, New York, Kiyan Anthony has the basketball world at his feet. His performances and potential have attracted the interest of numerous top colleges, with Auburn, USC, Florida State, Ohio State, Rutgers, and Syracuse all listed as potential destinations for the young prodigy.
A Legacy of Excellence
The Anthony name carries significant weight in the basketball community, thanks to the illustrious career of Kiyan's father, Carmelo Anthony. Carmelo's legacy was cemented when he led Syracuse to the 2003 national championship as a freshman—a feat that remains etched in the memory of college basketball fans. Carmelo has also made substantial contributions to Syracuse University’s basketball facility, which fittingly bears his name.
However, despite the familial ties and external pressure, Kiyan remains steadfast in his independence. "My father never pushes me to go to Syracuse just because his name is on the gym. He did so much at Syracuse. He knows that I'm my own person. I've just got to make my own decision at the end of the day," Kiyan shared.
The decision-making process for Kiyan is meticulous, guided by a desire to forge a path that fits his own aspirations. "Even though I know basically the whole world wants me to go to Syracuse, I still haven't made the decision yet and I still have to talk to the coaches some more and really get into detail—like what other players are coming, how they want me to play, how I’ll be coached and stuff like that," he explained.
A Support System Beyond the Spotlight
While his father may be the more visible figure, it's his mother who plays an equally pivotal role behind the scenes. "Everybody sees when the cameras are on [my dad] and then they’re on me because I’m playing good, but I would say my mom does a lot more background stuff," Kiyan noted. "Like, when I’m going through something or I need somebody to talk to, my mom is definitely the person."
Her influence extends beyond emotional support, pushing Kiyan towards excellence both on and off the court. "And she's the one who really pushes me to get in the gym, even if I don’t want to. To go to school and stay on top of my grades and stuff like that," he added.
The Road Ahead Amidst High Expectations
With his high school career still developing, Kiyan Anthony has already showcased his skills at prominent venues. In April, he made waves by scoring 15 points at the iconic Rucker Park, further cementing his reputation as a player to watch. Yet, as he continues to navigate his journey, Kiyan knows the importance of thorough consideration and the right fit when it comes to choosing a college.
"So I still have to finish up my visits, and then, ultimately, just make a decision. I will rely on my parents a lot with their advice and how they think a school fits me," Kiyan noted. Despite the high expectations and the spotlight that comes with his last name, Kiyan stresses the importance of his own ambitions and choices. "If it is Syracuse—I go there a lot and I practice, I work out there—if it is that, that's what it is. But he’s never going to say, 'You gotta go to Syracuse. You gotta go there because I went there.' He's not going to make me follow in his footsteps unless I really want to," he emphasized.
While Kiyan is focused on his own journey, he is also mindful of those around him. "My friends maybe not having the same opportunities as I have, I’m the one that’s tried to bring them along with me. I don’t want to make them feel left out," he said, highlighting his grounded and inclusive nature.
As Kiyan Anthony continues to rise, the basketball world watches with bated breath. His journey is one of immense talent and careful consideration, backed by a supportive family and a determination to carve his own legacy. Whether he follows in his father’s footsteps at Syracuse or blazes a new trail elsewhere, Kiyan’s future is undeniably bright.
